Southland Hospital Children’s Health Service is part of the Southern District Health Board and has a close working relationship with colleagues at Dunedin Hospital, in particular the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which is the closest tertiary provider and referral centre. The Paediatric Department is affiliated to the Dunedin School of Medicine and is actively involved in teaching, with Paediatricians providing Senior Lecturer roles and 5th and 6th year medical students being supported within the department.
For this role you will have a keen interest in the health and wellbeing of the children living within our community and in return you will work alongside a dedicated group of Paediatricians, more junior medical staff as well as other Child Health professionals.
You will be interested in becoming an RACP trainee, or you will have already done so, and be working towards your part 1 and 2 exams. As a basic or advanced trainee, you will be provided with a targeted teaching programme that is designed to provide you with the best learning opportunities for your current level.
You will have the opportunity to see children with wide and varied pathologies, in a service that is supported by strong links with tertiary providers throughout New Zealand. The role is split to provide a comprehensive general Paediatric service, a number of clinic options as well as a level two Neonatal service that supports up to 1600 deliveries per annum.
Located in the lower South Island, Southland offers a wide range of recreational activities. It is home to two of New Zealand’s national parks which offer opportunities for tramping, internationally acclaimed fishing, hunting, climbing and a wide range of outdoor pursuits. There is an abundance of choice for skiing with four ski fields within easy driving distance and Invercargill is a family friendly city with excellent educational and sporting facilities.
As a minimum requirement, you will have at least 2 years post graduate medical experience and also some experience of working in a Child Health role.
